You just can’t beat this fruity Sunday lunchtime favourite. Serve it up with either a large dollop of thick double cream or custard.
For the fruit
Braeburn apples – 750g, peeled, cored and sliced
Blackberries – 750g, rinsed
Sugar – 4 tablespoons
Butter – 1 tablespoon
For the crumble
Unsalted butter – 120g
Plain flour – 180g
Oatmeal – 60g
Caster sugar – 120g
1) Place the apples, blackberries, sugar, butter and two tablespoons of water in a saucepan and cook until the apples soften.
2) Put in a shallow, ovenproof dish.
3) Heat the oven to 200C.
4) For the crumble, rub the butter into the flour and oatmeal until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar and sprinkle over the fruit.
5) Bake for about 30 minutes until the crumble is golden brown.
